
History of ETEI, Chikiti
Government Elementary Teacher Education Institute Chikiti is situated in south-east part of ganjam district of the State of Odisha boarding to Andhra Pradesh. The institution spreads over a prime land of 8.41 acres which is around 25 km away from the New bus stand, Berhampur and 23 km away from Railway station, Berhampur. People of this area mostly speaking odiya and telugu as their native language. Up to 1957, there was no scope of teachers training institution in this area. So the local native people of this area deprived from quality education and holistic development of her children.
First, The Teacher Training Centre, Chikiti was established at Berhampur in 1884. This institute was the 2nd Teacher Training institute in Odisha to be recognised. Govt of odisha taken a major initiative step for establishment of a teachers training institution at Chikiti and in 1958, it was shifted from Berhampur to Chikiti and in this above matter, important role played by Late Lingaraj Panigrahi, District Board President. Raja Sachidanand Deb of Chikiti sold his land and some parts of his Palace to Government of Odisha for the set up a Secondary Training School, Which is mentioned in vide document No. 1916/1958 dated 13.05.1958 of the District Registrar, Berhampur. Finally, the institution was established on 1958, it got affiliation from the NCTE New Delhi.
The nomenclature of secondary training school has been upgraded to Elementary Teacher Education Institution, Vide order NO: No.F.ER-256.12.4/(ERC/06-2/OD/2016)/D.El.Ed/2018/57662(1-41)dated:13/06/2018-03/08/2018 and course herewith be treated as D.El.Ed instead of CT henceforth.
The Easter Regional Committee granted permission conducting D.El.Ed course of elementary level of two years duration from annual intake capacity from 50 to 100 for the academic session 2014-15 under clause 7(11) of NCTE regulation 2009.
This is the only institution in Odisha where 50 numbers of seats are reserved for Telugu language quota. Telugu people teachers are getting opportunity for admission vide the order no:5242 dated:08/07/2010 of directorate of TE&SCERT, Odisha, Bhubaneswar.
Vision
The stated Vision & Mission are pursued through curricular, co-curricular, extracurricular, cultural activities, seminar, science execution, books fare etc. Group activities in practical classes and practice reading in library section are developed their reading skill and LSW skill through different tests and examinations.
Mission
Self-discipline, social-cultural values and national integration are inculcated among the pupil teachers through games, sports and different type of co-curricular activities programmes.
